ACCOMMODATION
Cabins: Between them, Duke & Duchess have accommodation for eight guests in four single cabins, one double cabin and one twin-bedded cabin. Each cabin, although compact, is extremely comfortable with bed, hot and cold running water, ample storage space including a lockable cupboard, reading light, and ever changing views from the window! The beds are all full length with comfortable mattresses, duvets, and colour co-ordinated bed linen, towels and bathmats.

En-suite facilities: One of the single cabins and the twin cabin are equipped with full en-suite facilities (shower and modern electric WC). The twin cabin has two lengthwise, low-level, parallel bunks rather than the more typical cross-bedded arrangement.

Bathrooms: In addition to the en-suite facilities, there is a bathroom on both boats, each with modern fresh water toilet, full-sized shower and washbasin with a plentiful supply of hot water. There is a further toilet on Duchess.

Saloons: The main saloon/dining room on Duke houses the well-stocked bar (open all the time!) whilst the smaller saloon on Duchess holds our extensive library. The library comprises a selection of fiction and reference books (including canal-related material, local interest, nature and natural history, and cookery etc.) and a comprehensive set of canal maps.

Well decks: Both boats have well decks (with removable covers to protect you in wet weather), which are excellent places to sit and watch the world go by.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Which cruise should I choose?
This is the most difficult decision for you to make! Every cruise has its own special attraction; each canal and river has its own particular charm.
In general, cruises on canals offer more opportunities to be active - to help with the locks or to walk the towpath. On rivers, particularly the Thames, there are more historic places to see, and sometimes more opportunities for sightseeing.
Our boats are centrally heated, so you will still be comfortable whatever the weather.

What is included?
The price of our cruises includes full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner together with mid-morning coffee, afternoon tea, and a glass of wine with dinner) and a comfortable cabin with all linen, towels and soap. In short, everything you would expect from a good hotel. However, the price does not include your bar bills, car parking or entrance fees to local attractions.

What should I bring?
This is an informal holiday and storage space, though ample, is limited so don’t bring too much. We suggest that you include comfortable, casual clothes, a warm jumper for cooler evenings and waterproofs. Bring soft-soled shoes to wear on board and stoughter shoes or boots if you intend to walk the towpaths. Don't forget your camera and lots of film, and possibly binoculars for observing the varied wildlife. A torch will be useful for evening sorties from the boat.

Can I smoke on board?
For the safety and comfort of all our guests, smoking is not permitted inside the boats.

When should I book?
Soon!
As we only carry eight guests at a time many of our cruises book up early.
So if you want a particular route or specific date we suggest you contact us straight away to avoid disappointment.

How do I join the cruise?
Many guests are brought and picked up by relatives or friends. Others come by taxi, car or public transport whichever is more convenient. Our start/finish points are generally within easy reach of a railway station or other public transport. Our joining instructions include maps of the location of the boats and information about travel by public transport. Alternatively, we can usually arrange car parking for you (generally for a small fee).

When should I arrive?
Your cabin will be ready for you to board at 4.30 pm and afternoon tea will be served between 4.30 pm and 5.00 pm. Dinner is generally at 7.00 pm so you should plan to be aboard well in advance of dinner so that we can show you to your cabin and you can have time to settle in. Should you be delayed, please contact us by phone. If you want to arrive early to explore the town, you can leave your luggage with us during the day.
All our cruises finish after breakfast on the final day.
